A quick July 4th update (and thank you)

Welcome to RGM’s new paid subscribers, supporters, and readers

A quick July 4th update (and thank you)
Art Young's classic satirical take on what happens when journalism isn't independent. (1912, Library of Congress)

Last week I sent an e-mail reviewing the first six months of RGM’s reporting in 2026—the investigations that went deep, often broke news, and shined a light where darkness reigned. I also asked for your support.

The response was encouraging. The number of voluntary paid subscriptions increased by nearly twenty percent, the largest one-week increase since RGM launched. Generous one-time contributions came in, too, and the RGM Investigative Fund received its first donations, including several through donor-advised funds.

Six Months of Reporting No One Else Did
Here’s what RGM has produced this year—and your opportunity to support essential, in-depth storytelling.

I’m enormously grateful. The amount of time I devote to this work depends entirely on the support of readers who believe it matters. Last week, many of you made clear that it does. Thank you.

As a reminder, there are three ways to help:

  1. Become a paid subscriber →
  2. Make a one-time contribution of any amount →
  3. Make a tax-deductible contribution to the RGM Investigative Fund, hosted by RGM’s fiscal sponsor, the Alternative Newsweekly Foundation

Have a safe and happy Fourth! Particularly in this moment, Independence Day is a good day—and arguably the best day—to embrace and defend a free and independent press.

Onward,
Bill

P.S. Have an annoying friend who complains about the bags of unneeded cash cluttering their home? Forward this e-mail along...
