What to make of Ann Coulter?

It's not hard to imagine the fallout if a liberal columnist or commentator called a GOP presidential candidate "a faggot," as Ann Coulter called former Sen. John Edwards this week. The outrage would be swift and loud and would bounce off the walls of our political echo-chamber for days, if not weeks. Calls for "repudiation" would mount, and the Democratic candidates would be called on to "distance themselves" from the comments and the commentator.

Will this happen in the case of Coulter and the Republicans? Given that her remark came at the nation's largest annual gathering of conservative heavyweights, and included all of the GOP candidates as speakers, it will be interesting to watch. As of this writing, reports are that the campaign of Mitt Romney -- who introduced Coulter at the event -- "has not returned phone calls seeking comment." That's lame.

UPDATE: So far, Romney, Giuliani and McCain have chimed in and denounced Coulter's comments. As they should.

I ask myself " Why does she say such nasty, politically incorrect things ? " and then I think... " Well of course... she's a dumb blonde. What else did I expect ? "

Well, we can let " transexual " slide by, and " unibrow " too, I guess. But " and more "...? Those are fighting words.

What does it say about you when you are ordered to type " iesdb " into a little box before posting, and you meekly comply ? We never would have done that in the '60's.

Yeah, I don't like the "Word Verificiation" either. Smacks of "1984" and fascism and "The Man" and everything that is anathema to our people's revolution. Or something.

But the alternative is 80-100 spam comments on every post.

This time it wants " Iletao " .

Built into the security system: either a pharmaceutical random name generator or a publicity gimmick for new eastern religions.
